What to Look For When Purchasing a Safety Lift Up Banner

Simplicity. Notice traffic, caution and warning signs all around you? They all share common features: they are simple, use few words and reinforce the wording with a simple graphic. Studies have shown that most people will look at a sign, billboard, banner or poster for 2 seconds or less. That’s not a lot of time to take in complex images, a lot text or subtle background clutter.

Safety banners like all well designed safety signs use the same features. A well designed safety banner will have a positive effect on enhancing safety awareness but only Lift up a banner if the information can be taken in with a few seconds.. When selecting safety awareness banners, don’t let your message get lost in the clutter.

Slogans. We have all read safety and warning messages, how many do you remember? But, a great safety slogan can stay with you a lifetime. Simple, short and memorable slogans will increase the effectiveness of you safety banner. A simple slogan like “Lifting is Breeze, When You Bend At The Knees” is hard to forget the next time you lift something heavy. Would a lengthy statement on the correct placement of the hands, back orientation and lifting position have the same effect?

Graphics. Simple graphics that convey your message work best on a safety banner. Look through a selection of safety symbols used on safety related signs, almost all use the most simple graphic possible. When someone looks at your safety banner for a few seconds, they don’t have time to sort through a lot of colors, swirls, curved or vertical text. Try reading text where each letter is a different color, it sounds “flashy” and you would think it would attract attention? No, it is nearly impossible to read. When thinking about safety awareness graphics, think Simple = Best

Materials. Like any investment, you want your investment to last. We would never recommend anything less than 13 oz. materials with nylon netting embedded (scrim) for an industrial environment. Some places use 10 oz.. and even 8 oz. materials, they will try to tell you that the lighter material is better, it’s not. The heavier the material = increased cost = increased durability and less “show through”. Indoors or in areas out of high winds, safety banners can last a lifetime.

Construction. Not all banners are made the same. We recommend 1 inch hems. Besides giving the banner a finished appearance, the hems increase strength and durability. The hems should be double stitched with a lock type stitch using a thread designed for outdoor upholstery. Brass grommets, pole pockets, ropes, 0-rings, D-rings are typical mounting options.

Remember these simple tips and you’ll have a great looking safety banner that will be appreciated for many years. Safety messages can be deceptive by their simplicity, that doesn’t mean that a lot of thought hasn’t gone into increasing their effectiveness. Simple & Effective go together.
